Articles Post Severan Cramond: A Late Roman and Early Historic British and Anglo-Saxon Religious Centre? by Craig Cessford, University of Cambridge   The evidence of occupation at the Roman fort site of Cramond between the fourth and tenth centuries is assessed using a variety of sources of evidence including artifacts, place-names, documents, and the location of later structures. It is argued that this evidence suggests both British and Anglo-Saxon occupation, although its exact nature is unclear a religious element is likely.     Saxon Bishop and Celtic King: Interactions between Aldhelm of Wessex and Geraint of Dumnonia by Martin Grimmer, University of Tasmania   This paper explores the nature of relations between Aldhelm, abbot of Malmesbury and bishop of Sherborne in Wessex, and Geraint, king of Dumnonia, and the subsequent implications for Anglo-Celtic religious and secular attitudes across the West Saxon-Dumnonian border around the turn of the eighth century.   The Anglo-British Cemetery at Bamburgh: An E-Interview with Graeme Young of the Bamburgh Castle Research Project Interviewed by Michelle Ziegler, Belleville IL US   A discussion on the newly rediscovered cemetery at Bamburgh. The origins of this cemetery are with British long cist burials and continue through the British to Anglian, and Pagan to Christian transitions ending in the Age of Bede, eighth-century Anglian Northumbria.   What's in a name? Britons, Angles, ethnicity and material culture from the fourth to the seventh centuries. by Keith Matthews, Chester England   The emergence of various 'ethnically' based polities in early medieval Britain has long been a source of debate and confusion. I explore how ethnic self-identity is constructed and how the identities of the former Roman citizens of Britain changed. It is something that cannot be answered by archaeology alone; nor is a uniquely historical approach appropriate. A fully multidisciplinary examination is necessary.

History by Biography The Last of the Romans: The Life and Times of Ambrosius Aurelianus by Kurt Hunter-Mann, York England   This paper argues that Ambrosius Aurelianus was a more important figure than Arthur in fifth/sixth-century Britain. The life of Ambrosius elucidates the continuity of Roman Britain beyond the formal end of the Roman period in 410 and the rise of kingship in the former diocese during the fifth-century.   Oswald and the Irish by Michelle Ziegler, Belleville IL US   To understand King Oswald of Bernicia (r. 634/5-642), it is vital to understand his relationship with the Irish kingdom of Dalriada, which in his lifetime straddled the Irish Sea with territory in Ireland and Scotland. Ramifications of Oswald's exile in Dalriada extended into the secular and ecclesiastical world of Bernicia and beyond.
